iTero Digital Scanner

iTeroiTero® digital scanning removes the mess and goop from taking impressions! Using this state-of-the-art technology, we can make the impression process quick and comfortable as well as highly precise. Digital impressions allow doctors to ensure that, restorative services, orthodontic appliances, including traditional braces and Invisalign®, are tailored to your exact needs.

The iTero device is one of the most advanced digital scanners currently available, capturing three-dimensional images of the inside of your mouth in seconds so that we can visualize your teeth and supporting oral structure and provide comfortable and effective care. The imaging process is simple – our dentists and team simply pass a small wand over your teeth. The wand captures the images and simultaneously processes them to provide an immediate, completely and highly accurate digital impression. Captured images are saved automatically so that you will not need to sit through a second scan.

Benefits of iTero digital impressions include:

  • No mess
  • Completely non-invasive
  • Comfortable – the scanning process can be started and stopped as needed if you feel at all uncomfortable
  • Faster and more efficient
  • No risk of gagging

We welcome you to call American Dental Care at 703-533-7285 to learn more about iTero digital scanning and impressions and set up your free consultation with our orthodontist or dentists at our Falls Church location.

Panoramic and Cephalometric Digital Radiography

Along with digital X-rays, panoramic and cephalometric X-rays are diagnostic tools that doctors may use to further evaluate your teeth and jaws and plan your treatment. Both panoramic and cephalometric X-rays are a type of extraoral imaging, meaning that nothing is inserted into your mouth during the imaging process. Panoramic and cephalometric X-ray machines simply rotate around your head to capture images and provide our orthodontist and team with high-definition images.

Panoramic and cephalometric images are very similar. However, there are some slight differences between these two imaging technologies. A panoramic X-ray will focus primarily on the jaw, capturing images of the full upper and lower dental arches including the jawbones and surrounding facial structures. A cephalometric X-ray uses a specially adapted film holder mounted on a mechanical arm to capture images of your entire oral structure, including the nasal and sinus passageways to providing a comprehensive view of your jaw, mouth and head.

These imaging technologies allow us to:

  • Assess the need for orthodontic treatment
  • Evaluate the progress of orthodontic treatment
  • Evaluate the jaw joint to diagnose problems or plan treatments
  • Evaluate any dental or facial trauma or other issues which may occur
  • Plan better quality treatments to meet your needs and smile goals

Some benefits of panoramic and cephalometric imaging include:

  • Comprehensive views of your jaws, mouth and side profile
  • Views of the jaw in relation to the cheekbones
  • Easy measurement of the teeth
  • Quick and accurate diagnosis of injuries to the teeth and jawbone
  • Additional information about the cause of bad bites
  • Images which are magnified up to 30% for easier viewing
  • More effective and thorough treatment planning

Radiation Safety

Many people worry about their safety or their children’s safety when receiving X-rays. At American Dental Care, we only take X-rays after the doctor has evaluated the patient and determined that there is an immediate need for one. Additionally, digital X-rays are extremely safe for use — in fact, they produce up to 90% less radiation than traditional film radiography. X-ray machines are also inspected regularly to ensure that they are safe and functioning correctly.

Intraoral Digital Radiography

Our office also uses digital sensors that provide a quick view of all radiographs taken via computer screen. Digital imaging dramatically reduces a patient’s radiation levels to just 1/6th of that produced by traditional film-based X-rays. They also make it quicker and easier to securely share your radiographs with other medical and dental offices.

Digital radiography makes seeing small areas between teeth or below any restorations easier than visual inspection or traditional X-ray film. It also requires no chemical processing and generates no hazardous waste. On top of these benefits, our endodontist can manipulate these digital images using various techniques to enhance their diagnostic abilities further.

Every member of our team has undergone special training to take and use intraoral digital radiographs. This training includes education on the proper use of radiation equipment, infection control, periodic safety updates, and access to updated information about new equipment and techniques when available.

Electronic Records

Electronic medical records improve a patient’s quality of care by allowing a larger quantity and higher quality of readily available information. Detailed digital records also allow greater efficiency when assessing and identifying a patient’s allergies, medications, and other important information that may affect treatment.

We store all radiographs digitally on a secured file server. With electronic file transfer, we can send them to a referring dentist or insurance company swiftly and securely. Your medical data is sensitive information, and we take every care in making sure it stays safe and private.
